Welcome to Lexden Springs School. ☀️

We are a vibrant and nurturing Special Needs School for pupils aged 3–19, all of whom have Severe Learning Needs. Located in West Colchester, we are proud to be a large and supportive community, currently home to 303 wonderful pupils. Although our building was originally designed for 220 pupils, our commitment to meeting the needs of our community continues to guide everything we do. We are also proud to be part of the Hope Learning Community Trust.

Most of our pupils travel from across the Colchester area, arriving each day by minibus or taxi. We truly value the strong relationships we have with our families, and we work closely with them to ensure every child is known, celebrated, and supported to reach their fullest potential.

Our current purpose-built school building opened in September 2019. Before this, the school was based on Halstead Road, a site opened in 1981 following the amalgamation of Ramparts School (established in 1971) and the Royal Eastern Counties Institution’s Golden Grove hospital school at Turner Village. This rich history underpins our continued growth and development as a school.

We are fortunate to have a large, dedicated, and skilled staff team who share a deep belief in enriching the lives of our pupils and their families. Their passion and expertise help create the warm, supportive environment that defines Lexden Springs.

We are also delighted to offer a purpose-built residential provision, which many of our pupils can access during their time with us. This additional support gives pupils valuable opportunities to develop independence and social skills in a safe and caring setting.
